Neunplus presents Gravity, an exhibition of new work by Akira Rachi.

  • Vernissage/Opening: March 1st 2007, 7pm, at Neunplus.
  • Duration: March 2nd-18th, 2007 (Opening hours: Wed-Fri: 4pm-8pm, Sat-Sun: 2pm-6pm).

Japanese photographer Akira Rachi works to show new visions of photography as a kind of minimalist visual philosophy.

The photographs in Gravity are characterized by simplicity, light and composition. These aspects are presented in what appears to be a minimalist and reductionist manner, but this simplicity shows simultaneous complexity, just as social situations can be deceptively simple, and at the same time unendingly complex. Thus, the viewer is offered – indeed, requested to provide – their own interpretation and their own associations.

The title, Gravity, describes the process of co-existing elements such as strength and weakness.

One photographic concept of Rachi is to document ambiguous experiences in everyday life, for example in cities like Tokyo, London and Berlin. Viewers are expected to participate in these ambivalent moments to find different relationships between photographs and themselves. The result will be a regenerated, perceptual view of reality which should be different in comparison to the past perceptions. Citizen will also find different aspects of their cities.

The exhibition is presented by the JapanFoundation; we also thank Goko restaurant for their support.
